Edit Re: The Funniest Marriage proposals☺♥☺

The newsletter said romantic not funny - which is it?

My boyfriend flew me to Hong Kong. We saw Chinese New Year in gambled in Macau, had lots of fun. On the day of the proposal we went to Lantau Island (where the huge buddha is) and had a lovely day in beautiful surroundings of peace and tranquility. In the evening we got the ferry back and had a lovely meal then went to see the Laser Light show at Victoria Pier. He got down on one knee and was shaking! How could I say no?? An old couple next to us started kissing and we got cheers and a round of applause.

My boyfriend arranged to pick me up from work to take me to see a house that had just come up on the market at the village where we wanted to live. there was not a for sale board up as my boyfriend said that someone had tipped him off and that we just had to wait in front of the church for him to meet us and to let us in. so we got out of the car and i started to tell my boyfriend that i had a horrible scab on my head and that it was really sore. my boyfriend then slapped my leg and told me to shut up, which made me turn around to him and i wondered why he had slapped my leg, only yo find him down on one knee! he had been down on one knee the whole time, i just hadn't noticed because of this scab on my head! he then asked me to marry him and of course i said yes! the whole story about meeting someone about a house that had come on the market was all lies! but the the next day we had an offer expected on a house we liked in the village! we get married in October this year.

Edit Re: The Funniest Marriage proposals☺♥☺

So this might not be the most romantic story you have ever heard but it's certainly one to tell the grandkids...

On a romantic getaway to London with my fiance, i had trekked around the whole of the city all weekend and was very tired... All that shopping in Harrods etc had worn me out and my feet were killing me. On the Sunday afternoon we headed back to the hotel which was just over Tower Bridge and my Hubby to be turned to me in the middle of the bridge (which was full of tourists) and said 'shall we just stop here for a minute?' I thought he was mad and had my mind set on simply getting over the bridge and stopping at the Witherspoons at the the other end for a nice cold pint! He was persistent though and kept trying to get me to stop which got me quite mad and i ended up shouting at him in front of all the random people to stop being so stupid and hurry up!

Finally in Witherspoons, i got a table and sent my other half to the bar... upon his return he pulled out the most gorgeous ring and said 'will you marry me?' Of course i said yes but after the initial joy i asked why of all places he had decided to propose in a pub in London? His previous strange behavior was revealed when he explained that he wanted to get down on one knee in front of everyone on Tower Bridge but i wouldn't stop! After my stroppy behaviour he even reconsidered asking at all!! So now when people ask i tell them that whilst his intentions were romantic, i ended up being proposed to in a pub because i'm such a moody cow! Good job he loves me anyway huh?!

I received your email and it says you were looking for the most romantic proposal so i thought i would post that!

My boyfriend and I went to Tenerife on holiday last July. We visited a lovely beach and found a restaurant that overlooked it. My boyfriend booked a table and asked the guy when the sun set. I was oblivious to why he asked that i just thought it was a romantic meal!
That night we had a fantastic meal and watched the sun go down, then he asked me to go for a walk on the beach....under the stars and the moonlight he asked me to marry him and 'make him the happiest man in the world!' i was soo shocked and excited! He produced the most gorgeous ring and told me he had paid to have it engraved with the words 'moon and back' which was special to us!
....As we drove back to the hotel in the taxi, i joked and said 'where is my red rose?' ...we went up to our room and I opened the door to find a huge bouquet of flowers and a big bottle of champagne!!
I couldnt believe how he had arranged everything!...on top of all of that he had provisionally booked a venue for the wedding!!!... a gorgeous hotel by the coast where we live! and to top it all off when we woke up the following morning he said 'i booked the venue for exactly a year today!' .....i was so overwhelmed!!! I think it is the most romantic proposal but im very bias! :)

Edit Re: The Most Romantic Marriage Proposals☺♥ - The Italian Job

The Italian Job

After 5 years together, Jess (thats Me) and Russ(thats him) embarked on a holiday of a lifetime around Italy. Unbeknown to Me, Russ had an ulterior motive of finally pledging his love to me whilst they were there.

For 11 days he had held his breath as I rummaged through the suitcase, knowing that at any moment I would find the engagement ring box that was hidden in his toilet bag. Luckily for him I didn't.

They had been out for a day in Amalfi, where he had let me peruse the jewellery shops,(this never happens) letting me tell him how much I wished for a sparkling ring on her finger.

As we returned back to their hotel, they had spotted a restaurant within a saracen look out point on the cliff road, overlooking the mediterranean and they decided to have a last romantic meal on the Amalfi coast before heading back to Rome.

Russ decided that this was going to be the night.
Before they headed out for their meal, they decided to have a drink out on their balcony. With perfect timing fireworks began to light up the sky, even though Russ tried his hardest to convince me ,I would not believe that Russ had arranged these for her!

They had settled at their table, looking out onto the starlit ocean ,Me looking gorgeous in a long pink dress, Russ' arse twitching. As they finished their first course, Russ made his excuses and disappeared for a while to arrange the champagne and to switch the ring from is wallet to his shirt pocket. I began to worry as he had been gone for so long, she thought he had made a run for it and leave her with the bill.

Towards the end of the meal, Russ tried hard to find the right moment when I wasn't looking to produce the ring from his pocket. he finally managed it.
As he went to say the magic words, I thought he was joking and with my usual ladylike manner replied "Don't wind me up". As he produced the ring, I realised this was the moment I had been waiting for, for 5 long years. I immediatly said yes and burst into tears, Russ unsure of whether this was in happiness or just sheer relief that he had actually done it.

It was the perfect end to the perfect holiday but also the beginning to a perfect life together.

This may not seem romantic to some, but it was for us. My partner had wanted to get married for about 2 years, and I wasn't sure as I'd been married before, I had the boys from my previous , and we had a little girl together. I wanted to make it even more special so I said that if he lost 3 stone, we could get married..as I wanted us to get healthy, So we decided to get register with Cancer Research to raise some money for Breast Cancer Research which would give the help to others as well as loose the weight. My partner has now lost over 5 stone, and I've lost 1 1/2 stone. (oh and nearly raised £500 for Cancer research) I did ask him to marry me and we are getting married in July 2010.
We are so excited, and can't wait for our special day. Our little girl can't wait to be a bridesmaid, she tells everyone she's getting married. LOL. . BTW, I'm still trying to loose another stone. x

Okay, it started one Friday morning 7th of August 09, John had made me book the day off work, he made me breakfast in bed and then after some snoozing and cuddling, asked me to marry him! it was so simple, but so perfect in our big round bed with our drapes hanging around us, it felt like we were the only people in the world! He then told me we were going on a trip, he said he had got something in store. Nothing could have prepared me for the feelings i felt when we were going to Tiffany & Co!!!! No expense spared and again i felt so special! i love my engagement ring, and i will never forget that day, how personal it was to us as a couple. We finished off the day by having a tub of ben and jerry baked alaska on the gardens of the place were we first met.....which is now our wedding venue!!!! Kymberley xxx

Re: The Most Romantic Marriage Proposals☺♥☺

I was thinking of Paris or Rome to propose to my beautiful girlfriend on Valentines day this year. I mentioned visiting these places for a weekend break, trying to test the water, but I couldnt see a real sparkle in her eyes. We broached the subject of a day trip to cheddar caves or wookey hole and that gave me the idea! I researched cheddar caves on the computer and found out they had a cavern called the diamond cavern. My girlfriend loves cheese so I sold her the story that she had never tasted cheese like REAL cheddar that had matured in the caves. She took the bait(excuse the pun) immediately.
A few days later, Valentines Day, we headed off in the car to the caves. We stopped at a service station for a break, where I secretly phoned the caves and talked to a guy at the kiosk named Michael Drearden. I explained that I would like to propose to my girlfriend and asked if that was ok. He said that I should speak to him alone when I arrived. We got there about an hour later. I sent my girlfriend into the shop next to the kiosk and took my plastic carrier bag laden with champagne, ring and glasses to the kiosk. Michael introduced himself quickly and said that when we had finished the audio tour of the caves, we would end up in the diamond cavern, where he had arranged for a light show on the stage to showcase the magnificent formations. When the light show had stopped it was my cue to propose. I handed him my carrier and very nervously paid our entrance and collected my lovely Jayne from the shop. It was the longest tour ever and Jayne was really into the audio narration which played through the earphones and the hanging cheddar cheese of course!! We eventually arrived at the diamond cavern and stood and watched the light show. When the lights dimmed I bent down on one knee and looked up to propose to Jayne. As I looked up their was a crowd of around 30 people watching and smiling. My words hardly came out and the moment coupled with the crowd elevated the event. Jayne said yes (thank God!) and immediately broke down in tears and hugged me with a bear like grip. Michael, the little tinker, had briefed everone in the caves and arranged for them all to meet up and watch. He was also a photographer for the local paper, so took many pictures and the article was covered in the local evening rag as well as the Walsall Express and Star(our local rag). It was the most scary but romantic time of our lives and a first for the caves. We get married on September 10th this year and have enjoyed sharing our experience with you all and thank Mr Drearden who made our moment perfect

Edit Re: The Most Romantic Marriage Proposals☺♥☺

We had a holiday booked in New Zealand for well over a year. The reason for the trip was to visit friends who had imigrated there and to attend their wedding. I was a bridesmaid and Dan, my fella, the Best Man. Dan's brother Adam and his girlfriend Laura were also joining us on the trip so it was very exciting. On the day of the wedding I was soooooo happy for our friends, but at the back of my mind I couldnt help feeling a little depressed, there was I the oldest girl there and yet still no sign of Dan proposing, in fact he had indicated he just wasnt keen on marriage. I also had it on good authority that Adam would be proposing to Laura at some point on the trip so again, even tho I knew that would be wonderful to see them so happy and be there for them I knew it would hurt me and I would be wondering when its my turn..
One day after the wedding when we were travelling round in campervans (on the happy couples honeymoon with them!) we decided to go to Cape Reinga, this, we were told, is the most northest point of NZ and where 2 oceans meet. Once there we all walked, in couples to the edge of the cliffs just talking and leisurely enjoying the views. Dan said to me, lets climb up this hill? I wasnt keen but thought why not, I had noticed Adam and Laura head off on their own too so was smiling to myself thinking Adam is gonna pop the question to Laura what a brilliant spot for it. Once at the top of this hill, we sat down and enjoyed the view I couldnt help craning my neck to see if I could spot the others. Dan suddenly looked at me so strangely and nervously (Im sure many other girls know the signs!) and as he said "Well Miss Gleadow I have somethng to ask you" I felt my whole insides shake... I hardly heard anymore after that - I heard the "will you marry me bit and knew he was saying some absolutely wonderful things" but my eyes were so blurred and my heart so swollen I couldnt focus on anything except what a perfect time i was having. After i had, of course, said yes and stopped crying I had to ask about Adam and Laura. The truth all came tumbling out that the brothers had been planning this together and that Adam was asking Laura at they very moment as well. I couldnt not have been happier and the ring was perfect too - he had gone to Hatten Garden to pick it and it was a beautful pink diamond, which is gorgeous. We didnt want to leave our special place but we did and myself and Laura rang into each others arms crying with happiness. The rest of the party were waiting for us at the campervans with champagne and special flutes they had made with the date on. I still cant believe the effort and romance Dan put into that moment and only have to think of any part of that time and my eyes well up. We celebrated into the early hours that day and the next day I rode along a beach on a quad bike screaming IM ENGAGED at the top of my lungs. Adam and Laura get married in a few weeks (27th August) and we are getting married next year (10th June) The brothers did good but I think Laura and me feel like we are the lucky ones.

Edit Re: The Most Romantic Marriage Proposals☺♥☺

I am 23 and am now at long last almost divorced from my former husband. I suffered 7 years of extensive domestic violence and abuse at his hands. I left him, taking my then 3 year old daughter with me in 2009. We moved into a refuge with few posessions and lived in abject poverty. Three months after doing this I met Alex, an old school friend I had known and loved when we were 12 years old!

Our relationship blossomed, as did his with my daughter. He is now stepdad to her and loves her as if she were his own. We had a long distance relationship for 6 months. It was heart breaking to constantly say goodbye. We all used to end up in tears at the train station. He took us on holiday and we all knew that after that we would never want to be apart. Late 2009 we moved in together, me, Alex and my daughter. We have been unbeliveably happy since, despite so much legal stress and money worries.

On our first Christmas morning together (in 2009) we sat in our pjs and dressing gowns under the tree, which our parents and friends had given us, watching our daughter open presents. We watched the delighted looks on each other's faces. After opening everything Alex asked me to move some of the boxes, so I turned round and put them on the table. When I turned back to him he was down on one knee with a diamond ring in his hand!!

He told me that he had always known I was the one and that to him I was the most beautiful person in the world and asked me to marry him. I could barely speak and he told me afterwards that he was shaking all over with nerves. I was so excited all day that I couldn't believe how lucky I was. I still can't. Alex is determined to give me a fairytale wedding and spend a fortune on a dress for me, because he belives I deserve to be treated far better than I have had for the rest of my life. I am so lucky to have him.

Wow, there are a LOT of romantic men out there! :)

My fiancé and I met five years ago through a mutual friend. We were both with other people at the time, but we quickly became best friends. He supported me through a messy break-up with my boyfriend, which left me shattered and on anti-depressants. By the time I got better, I realised I was in love with him but I was too scared to ruin our friendship - a few bottles of alcohol and a night out later, and I plucked up the courage to tell him!

From the moment we got together, I knew I wanted to marry him. But it was always going to be tough because of his religion (he's Muslim, I'm not and his family don't like that.) On Christmas Day / New Year / Valentine's Dat this year, I was expecting a proposal but I didn't get one (apparently, he wanted it to be a big surprise!). Then, one Sunday night he suggested we go for dinner at the restaurant where we had our first ever date - I was only wearing a hoody and jeans!

Before we went to the restaurant, he said we should go for a walk, so he took me up to the place where we'd first ever met, and told me how I'd never looked more beautiful and how he loved me more than anything. I started crying because I knew what was going to happen - when I was with my ex, my fiance would always say that the man for me would be the one who loved me even when I was wearing a hoody and jeans. Then, beneath the stars, he got down on one knee and presented me with a beautiful book.I was shaking as I took the book and he asked me to marry him. I could hardly stand up I was so emotional, so I had to sit on the floor! Inside the book, each page contained a beautiful letter and photos, written by my friends and family - each letter told of my friends' favourite memories of me, and why they loved me. Then, in the back of the book was a beautiful letter from my fiance, which described his love for me and asked me to turn over the page... A special hole had been carved into the back of the book, and my ring was placed in the hole, beneath the words 'marry me'.I've never cried so much, but he still made me go for dinner with him! I'm obsessed by books, so he said he wanted me to have my own to always remind me how special I am. I feel so incredibly lucky to be marrying a man that thoughtful and who spent that much time thinking of the perfect proposal!
